Diverse Culture used the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development exhibition to officially launch its race awareness training program to let employers cost-effectively train large numbers of staff about racial diversity. The new program covers the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 and the Race Relations Act 1976 (Amendment) Regulations 2003.
The training program can be provided on CD-ROM, the internet or an organisation?s own intranet. It enables employees to learn through self-paced learning and can be completed in several sessions taking no more than about an hour in total. It provides employers with an audit of the organisation's commitment to equalities and diversity legislation, and provides employees with a certificate to show they have successfully completed the course.
The race awareness training program includes training about responsibilities under race relations legislation, and how racism and prejudice occurs and the implications on behaviour and thinking. It uses a wide range of different scenarios, images and quotations that can be purchased off the shelf or customised for different organisations.
Diverse Culture's training courses are unique in that they use neuro-linguistic programming techniques to actually help employees question the way they think and behave, instead of simply traditional learning by rote.
Diverse Culture has moved into new offices on South Parade, in the heart of the commercial quarter of Leeds city centre. The new offices provide space to house the expanding team, as well as additional space for future growth.
The Secretary of State for International Development, and Leeds Central MP, Hilary Benn is officially opening the new offices on Friday 7 January 2005. The minister will also have the opportunity to meet some of Diverse Culture's key customers, investors and development partners.
Supporting students
Moving into new offices also means that Diverse Culture has space to offer work experience to business students from Leeds Metropolitan University. Diverse Culture director Martyn Rainford explained: "Placements are an important part of university life. They provide students with valuable practical experience while giving the host company an opportunity to benefit from an extra pair of hands and new skills and enthusiasm."
Sales team expansion
A former Mastermind question master is the latest recruit to the sales team at Diverse Culture. David Rainford brings more than 10 years of sales and marketing experience and will be responsible for developing key accounts with clients from the public and private sector
Before joining Diverse Culture David worked at Peninsula Business Services, where he was responsible for sales of health and safety and employment law services. He has also worked for television quiz shows Mastermind and Fifteen to One researching and devising questions.
?It is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-growing young company, said David Rainford. "I'm looking forward to not only developing its sales and marketing but also being involved in the development of new diversity training solutions as they expand to include race, age, disability, religion and belief, gender, and sexual orientation."

Success at CIPD exhibition
Diverse Culture exhibited at the annual Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Conference and Exhibition in Harrogate on 27–29 October. It was the company's first exhibition and generated hundreds of enquiries from potential customers as varied as banks, police forces, central government departments, manufacturers, universities and local authorities.
Advice on board
The Diverse Culture advisory board has now attracted a number of senior members to provide the management team with advice and support on a wide range of social, economic, political and business issues.
The board is chaired by John Grogan MP who before entering Parliament ran his own successful event management business. He currently chairs a number of high-profile Parliamentary committees. Other members of the board include leading equalities practitioner Satwant Pande; Alison Lowe who is the director of community mental health charity Touchstone, and a Leeds city councillor specialising in diversity issues; and Peter England, who has headed up human resources at leading UK pharmaceutical companies.
